A perfect fit: the art of plate installation

Your custom plates have arrived. Now it's time to install them.

But achieving a clean, secure fit isn’t always as simple as it seems. Vehicles use a wide variety of mounting systems, fixing points and plate recesses. European models often feature larger mounting blocks designed for Euro plates, while other manufacturers use proprietary mounts specific to their vehicles.

This can create challenges when installing Victorian plates, particularly smaller, high-value ranges such as Signature and Heritage. Without the right mounting kit, a plate may not sit securely or align cleanly with the vehicle.

A purpose-built bracket can make all the difference. Designed to suit the vehicle’s mounting configuration and the dimensions of the plate, it creates a secure fit without unnecessary drilling. The result is a clean, seamless finish that lets the plate do what it was designed to do: stand out.

Finding a better way to fit custom plates

Flow Brackets was founded after Benjamin Wang and his partner identified a common frustration among car enthusiasts: finding a secure and seamless way to fit number plates across different vehicle models.

"People assume it's straightforward, but it's not,” Wang explains. “When you've invested in a vehicle, the last thing you want to do is drill into it, damage the grille or leave behind holes that can lead to rust and wear."

To address this challenge, Flow Brackets developed custom solutions for a range of vehicle models and mounting configurations. Using snap-fit clips and proprietary fasteners, each bracket is designed to hold the plate firmly in position without compromising the vehicle's finish.

How a Flow Brackets installation works

1. Remove the existing mount

The vehicle's original mounting bracket is carefully removed to create a clean starting point for the installation.

2. Fit the plate into the custom bracket

The plate is precisely positioned within the Flow bracket until it locks securely into place.

For smaller formats such as Signature plates, this purpose-built fit is particularly important.

"The Signature plate is quite small and won’t fit most cars," Wang says. "Once our Signature plate bracket snaps into place, the grub screws then expand to hold it in place, so the plate is secure and won't move or rattle."

3. Lock the plate in place

Once fitted, the grub screws expand within the bracket to hold the plate firmly and help prevent movement.

4. Install the purpose-built mount

A vehicle-specific mount is attached to the grille using dedicated fasteners designed for the installation.

5. Complete the seamless finish

The finished installation gives the plate a secure, clean fit without drilling into the plate or unnecessarily compromising the vehicle's finish.

Added protection for your plates

Flow brackets are also designed to make plate removal more difficult for opportunistic thieves.

"Someone with a regular screwdriver won't easily be able to take your plates off and walk away with them," Wang says.

Owners can still remove their own plates when needed, using the dedicated tools supplied with every kit or installation.
